Series odds come from Series Simulator v0.3 (locked 15 Oct 2026) and the All-Star team ratings: best 8 players at 30 minutes, 75% star credit, era gap +1.5 per decade from 1992, today's NBA rules, neutral floor.

Every possession is played by the LAB IT possession sim v0.1. Who shoots comes from each player's usage that season; makes, threes, free throws, turnovers, rebounds and assists from his per-100 numbers (Basketball Reference). Each team's shooting is tuned so its expected score matches the series model exactly, so the possession layer can't make a team better or worse than the model says. Each series also gets one series-level swing, like v0.3.

Known limits: the best 8 share the ball in the first 42 minutes and the top 5 close the last 6; no fouls trouble, fatigue or coaching. Game-to-game spread is a little wider than v0.3 (about 15.7 points against 14.7), so upsets come slightly more often. Player movement is illustrative.

Shot zones are real from 1996-97 on: each player's share of shots at the rim, short range, mid-range, long two, corner three and above-the-break three, and how well he hit from each (Basketball Reference shooting tables). Seasons before 1997 have no zone data, so those players use the 1997-2001 All-Star average for their position. The exact spot inside a zone is illustrative. Zone accuracy is balanced so each player's overall shooting stays the same.
